Ghostwriter | Memoirist | Brand Storyteller

We all have stories percolating inside of us.

At times, they simmer quietly in our subconscious. At other times, they roil and churn in our conscious minds, rattling the cages of our souls, demanding to be told.

Welcome to Narrativiti - a transformative space where we can work together to release our stories into the wild.

“Storytelling is the commonality of all human beings, in all places, in all times.”
― Rives Collins

I believe sharing our stories is the greatest, most generous gift we can give one another. Stories create the invisible threads that connect us all. They emit cathartic energy that heals both the teller and the reader.

Do you have a powerful personal narrative or a snippet of a lived experience to tell? Are you a young, mission-driven brand with a bold and audacious story to share with the world? Whether you are representing a brand or yourself, we all have stories that need to be told.

The hardest part of storytelling is finding the perfect words to fit your unique narrative – like Cinderella’s glass slipper.

That’s where I come in. My name is Jo and my mission is to help you bring your story to life, one word at a time, in a way that tickles hearts and captures imaginations.

Finding Sisu is the culmination of my reverence for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and my kid-like, “can I get your autograph” admiration for elite athletes. No other event on this planet captures the human spirit more powerfully than the Games, and Finding Sisu is my way of paying tribute to this movement, specifically the Paralympic movement, the way I know best – through stories that connect with the heart.

Finding Sisu is a series of interviews with past, present and future hopeful Paralympians, Olympians and those who support them. Through videos, podcast interviews and written stories, I intend to bring greater awareness to the Paralympic Movement, adaptive sports and the incredible athletes who push themselves tirelessly to shatter records and take their place on podiums worldwide. Ultimately, I will publish a collection of athlete stories as a book called Finding Sisu to honor the grit and determination that drive them to greatness. All profits will support the Paralympic Movement.

If you are a para-athlete who has, will or hopes to represent your country in the Paralympics, I’d love to connect with you, share your story and together turn the Paralympic Movement into a thrumming anthem for a United Olympic and Paralympic Games!

As a writer working on my debut memoir and ghostwriter for individuals and brands, I personally understand the complexities of this unique genre. Storytelling has always been part of my soul. Whether you have a fully baked project in your mind or the faintest sliver of an idea, I can help you extract and capture your story in a memoir or narrative nonfiction book.

I get it. Something has been holding you back for years – most likely, it’s the fact that you don’t write for a living or simply that the daily demands of life make it impossible to carve out the time to do so. So your story remains trapped within you. I can help release your story into the wild and, in the process, make you a published author! I am skilled at teasing out your story and bringing it to life on paper. It’s easier than you think!

Here’s a high-level overview of my ghostwriting process:

We chat. We get to know one another, discuss your topic and publishing avenues and collaborate to create a general direction and perspective for your book.

I interview you. I like to do this part in person because it’s an in-depth conversation where I dive into all of the details of your life or topic. But if life’s circumstances demand virtual, a good ol’ Zoom call works as well.

I create a book outline and proposal. I review the notes from our conversation(s), gather other written or recorded content that relates to your story and craft a comprehensive book proposal for your review

I write your book. You review it. It gets edited. [Lots of behind-the-scenes work] and voila! Your book gets published!

You are a published author, and I remain a ghost (spooky, right?) 😉

You know what they say – behind every great book is an exceptional editor! Okay, maybe I made that up, but I wholeheartedly believe it. Hi, I’m Jo, and I am here to help you create your most captivating story.

– Your job: To get allllll the words out of your head and onto the page.

– My job: To nudge, cajole or tickle those words into the right order (and then proofread every word) to create your best work yet!

Here’s the situation. You’ve written a short story, a novel, a memoir, a business book, or a compilation of short stories. Now, you need a trusted partner to read your work with a critical (but compassionate) eye to help you organize it, rework sections and review the nitty-gritty details to create the most powerful version of your piece.

To get nerdy for a moment, there are six – some would argue seven or eight – types of book editing: editorial assessment, developmental editing (also called story editing), structural editing, line editing, copy editing, proofreading and substantive editing.

My forte is substantive editing, often called content editing, which involves a structural critique and a deep review of sentence structure, grammar, content, word usage, and overall writing style. I will read every word of every paragraph and use decades of experience and earned intuition to lay out the story in a logical and compelling way that will grab readers’ attention and keep them hooked until they turn the very last page. I then leverage AI tools or another set of human eyes for copy editing and proofreading. Writing is a team effort. We can create anything together!

When I am not writing long-form content, my heart flutters to help mission-driven brands tell their stories through social, digital or even printed media.

For over 25 years, I have crafted compelling, effective, award-winning content for industries such as non-profits, image licensing, retail coffee and healthcare. Many people have told me this is my superpower, and I would be honored to put my unique skills to work for your business.

Here are a few examples of how I can help your company:

– Brand messaging strategy (mission, vision, tagline, voice, tone, value proposition, core values, description of services)

– Custom website copy

– Interviews and podcasts

– Social media content

– Blog posts

– Case studies

– Content for special events

– Lifecycle marketing communications

– Presentations

– Speechwriter

Kind Words About My Writing
What Would Jo Write?

I blushed the first time someone told me they ask themselves, “What would Jo write?” when they can’t figure out how to write what’s on their mind. It will remain the greatest compliment I could receive as a writer. To this day, nothing makes me feel more honored than to know I inspire the words others write.

When I am not writing for others, I find it cathartic to weave my own words into stories. I have been working on a memoir about my journey in life, as well as jotting down musing about hard-earned life lessons, moments of vulnerability, and inspiring feats that give me goosebumps. If I don’t write, the words and emotions bumble around inside me like trapped fireflies. Writing is my soul’s outlet.

I invite you to read my stories, thoughts and musings. The greatest gift to me would be to know they inspire you, too in some small way.
